Dr. Zvi Peleg - Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment

Dr. Zvi Peleg joined the Hebrew University’s Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment in January 2012. He is a member of the Robert H. Smith Institute of Plant Sciences and Genetics in Agriculture. Peleg has returned to the Hebrew University having completed his masters degree and doctorate at the Faculty of Agriculture. His doctoral thesis was on the genetic and physiological characterization of drought resistance in wild emmer wheat. Following a short postdoctorate at the University of Haifa, Peleg did a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of California, Davis.

Dr. Peleg is a third generation agriculturalist who still lives near his family land in Moshav Herut, 7 miles southeast of Netanya. His research includes cereals’ adaptations to environmental stress combinations, wheat seedlings establishment under fluctuating environmental conditions, genetic control of capsule shattering in sesame, and mechanisms against multiple resistances to herbicides in grass weeds. In the spring semester, Dr. Peleg will start teaching two undergraduate courses: Introduction to Plant Science, and Weed Control Principles.
